United Educators' (UE) general liability (GL) policies insure the institution, its trustees, directors, officers, faculty, and employees (at the option of the educational institution) against liability arising out of bodily injury, personal injury, and
third-party property damage occurring because of wrongful or negligent acts attributable to the insured.
Our broad coverage protects against a wide range of potential claims including alcohol abuse, campus crime, and sexual misconduct. Coverage applies to:
- Allied health professionals and counselors in campus infirmary
- Armed and unarmed security guards
- Athletics
- Excess auto liability (GLX only)
- Excess employers liability (GLX only)
- Foreign travel
- Student transportation (excess of primary auto liability coverage)
- Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones)
Features of UE’s GL Coverage
Significant Limits
UE offers $1 million/$3 million aggregate primary coverage per occurrence, with limits of up to $30 million available under the excess policy subject to underwriting review.
Broad Definition of Insured
UE’s GL policies cover employees, trustees, volunteers acting on behalf of the institution, students (when acting to comply with the institution’s code of conduct), and committees, including institutional review boards (for nonprofessional liability).
Coverage for Newly Acquired Entities
When a for-profit entity is acquired, UE's educators legal liability (ELL) and GL policies provide for 60 days of automatic coverage for up to 5 percent of assets. Nonprofit entities are automatically covered with a threshold of up to 5 percent of assets.
Worldwide Protection
Worldwide coverage means that lawsuits do not have to be brought in U.S. courts. UE has defended against overseas negligence suits brought by foreign nationals. Our worldwide protection is even more critical as educators and students increase their geographic
footprint.
ProResponse
UE's supplemental crisis response program, ProResponse, helps institutions respond to unusual circumstances requiring a rational approach to legal matters, professional public relations counsel and a thoughtful appreciation for the emotional trauma of
the situation. ProResponse is available to members who carry UE's ELL and any form of GL coverage such as CGL, GLX, or BLX. Learn more.
Foreign Terrorism Endorsement
UE's standard GL policies provide coverage for acts of domestic terrorism. These policies cover hostile actions occurring in the U.S., including its territories or possessions, or in Canada.
The Foreign Terrorism endorsement offers optional GL coverage to protect an educational institution as well as its students and faculty traveling abroad from liability arising out of acts of foreign terrorism.
General Liability Excess
The general liability excess (GLX) policy provides limits of up to $30 million subject to underwriting review. This is an ideal fit with UE’s CGL coverage.
