Laura Hemmer leads United Educators’ (UE’s) actuarial function and provides strategic insight on pricing, reserving, and portfolio performance.
She oversees UE’s actuarial, data science, and data engineering teams and leads the organization’s actuarial pricing strategy and analytics capabilities. Laura is responsible for actuarial reserving and financial analysis of loss trends, ensuring that UE maintains strong financial discipline and actuarial governance.
Laura also plays a key role in advancing UE’s enterprise data capabilities, including implementation and adoption of UE’s Enterprise Data Warehouse and strengthening actuarial analytics and data governance across the company.
She works closely with UE’s executive leadership team and the organization’s external appointed actuary to ensure actuarial analysis supports sound underwriting decisions and long-term program stability.
Laura joined UE as Associate Vice President and Actuary in November 2019.
She previously worked in actuarial roles for Geico for over 12 years.
Laura is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) since 2016 and an active volunteer. She is also a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
She graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor of arts in criminology and a bachelor of science in mathematics and statistics.
Laura is married and has two children. She likes to read and does embroidery.
