In her role on UE’s Risk Research team, Melanie dives into timely topics affecting education. Her areas of expertise include protecting minors, enterprise risk management (ERM), technology accessibility, and athletics. Prior to joining UE, she interned at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. Melanie serves on the Higher Education Protection Network’s (HEPNet’s) Board of Directors.

Alisa Barnard
Director of Operations and Consultant
Alisa Barnard is the Director of Operations and a consultant for Learning Courage. She has over 25 years of experience having worked as a "triple threat" Humanities teacher, dorm parent, and coach, and an administrator at Northfield Mount Hermon School, Westtown School, St. Paul's School, and Proctor Academy where she was most recently the Assistant Head of School. She brings patience and a commitment to inclusion and collaboration to the complex work of community and institutional change.

Jayde Bennett
Director of Programs
An independent school educator and administrator for the past ten years, Jayde began their career as an Associate Director of Admission, soccer, basketball and lacrosse coach at their alma mater, Kent School. With administrative experience at both day and boarding independent schools, Jayde fully understands what it means to be an educator in these spaces and the heart work that is done daily. Most recently, Jayde served as the Director of Residential Life and Associate Dean of Students at The Masters School. In their time as an independent school student, educator and administrator, Jayde has found numerous ways to support students of marginalized backgrounds as they enter key phases of their identity development.
