Bethesda, Md., Nov. 29, 2022 — United Educators (UE) is pleased to announce the addition of Roya P. Ewing as its new Associate Vice President for Litigation Management and Operations. She joined UE on Nov. 28.

In her role, she will help lead the operations of UE’s Resolutions department and drive the development of a more robust litigation management function, including partnering with members and outside counsel on effective and efficient claims resolution.

“Roya’s years of experience in litigation management and operations and considerable time as a trial lawyer make her a great fit for UE,” said Ellen “Ellie” Kennedy, Vice President of Resolutions Management and General Counsel. “Roya shares our deep commitment to service education and will help ensure that UE members continue to receive the effective and efficient representation they have come to expect.”

Roya joins UE having spent the past 10 years as an Assistant Vice President at CNA Insurance in Richmond, Va.

From May 2016 through March 2022, Roya was CNA’s Assistant Vice President of Legal Services. As part of her role, she led inter-departmental projects to define, validate, and analyze legal spend data to maximize management of legal services and achieve enterprise expense savings. Prior to that, Roya was CNA’s Assistant Vice President of Claim Legal Staff Counsel managing the eastern region staff counsel offices representing the carrier’s policyholders across all lines of business. As a managing trial attorney at CNA, Roya defended complex litigation matters in state and federal court — including health care professionals, design professionals, general liability, wrongful death, construction, products liability, defamation, and mild traumatic brain injury cases.

Roya earned a JD from the University of Richmond’s T.C. Williams School of Law and a BA from the University of Virginia.
