United Educators Appoints Steve Smith Head of IT
Bethesda, Md., April 28, 2025 — United Educators (UE) has named Steve Smith as Head of IT. He will begin his role on May 5.
Steve joins UE with extensive experience in information technology (IT), including nearly 25 years’ experience working for an insurance company. He will work across departments to advance the company’s mission serving K-12 schools, colleges and universities.
Steve previously spent three years as Senior Director of IT for the National Council on Aging (NCOA), leading strategic and operational planning and oversight. He oversaw all aspects of IT application development and support; data governance; portfolio and project management; operations; security; and end-user support.
Before that, Steve was an IT leader at Geico from 1997 to 2021. His roles included Director, Assistant Vice President, and Vice President. He managed all aspects of IT strategy, application development and oversight of operations to support multiple departments.
Steve completed his master’s in Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also earned his bachelor’s in Psychology and Business.
