Workplace harassment takes an emotional toll on employees and costs employers millions, despite 30 years of prevention efforts. In fiscal year 2015, employees working for private or state and local government employers filed approximately 28,000 harassment charges with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Employers paid $125.5 million to employees in 5,518 cases the EEOC resolved, according to a June 2016 report from its Select Task Force on the Study of Harassment in the Workplace (Task Force).
