Tulsa Public Schools' Response Plan
Tulsa Public Schools (TPS), which has 39,000 students in 63 elementary, 12 junior high, nine high schools, and six alternative schools, as well as charter and partnership schools, follows Oklahoma’s state guidelines for illegal drugs in a school building.
At the beginning of each year, the staff reviews TPS policies and procedures, which allow a range of disciplinary and preventive responses for students’ use or possession of alcohol, drugs, or drug paraphernalia or being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, including:
- Student/teacher conference
- Parent/guardian conference
- Team conference
- In-school disciplinary response
- Short-term out-of-school suspension
- An assessment by a local mental health provider that specializes in drug treatment (students age 12 and over)
- Long-term suspension (not to exceed 45 days) based on totality of the circumstances and repetition of the behavior
- Immediate TPS campus police notification
- Student success plan
