Janice M. Abraham
President and Chief Executive Officer
Janice M. Abraham joined United Educators (UE) as President and CEO in January 1998. She is also President and CEO of United Educators Management Company. Ms. Abraham has over 15 years of experience in serving the higher education community through her work as Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer at Whitman College (1989-1997), various senior positions at Cornell University (1985-1989), and the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) where she served as staff associate. Ms. Abraham also served as an international banker for J. P. Morgan.

She serves on the Board of Governors of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, chairing the Investment Committee and serving on the Executive and Audit Committees. Ms Abraham also serves on the Board of Directors of United Educators. Additionally, she serves on the Whitman College and Waycrosse Investment Committees, the American University’s School of International Service Dean’s Advisory Council, and the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges Consulting Editorial Board. She is a former president of the Western Association of College and University Business officers (WACUBO) and a past member of the board of directors of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and the National Risk Retention Association.

She earned an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from American University.

In 2000, Business Insurance named Ms. Abraham as one of the “100 Top Leading Women” in the field of insurance. She was named the “2004 Insurance Woman of the Year“ by the Association of Professional Insurance Women. In 2005 Ms Abraham was honored by NACUBO as the recipient of the Professional Development Award and by her high school with the “Great Alumni Award”. In 2006 she was named by Business Insurance in their “Women to Watch” report as a leader of change in the insurance business.

Joe E. Carter
Vice President for Business Development and Marketing
Joe Carter joined United Educators (UE) in August 2005. Joe has a strong 17-year career record in small business and personal lines insurance with extensive experience in marketing and strategic planning. Most recently, he served as vice president and managing director of the Bank of America’s insurance services group, where he planned and built the bank’s proprietary insurance sales center.

Carter has also served as a territorial manager for Prudential Insurance and an agency manager, risk management specialist, and claims representative for Allstate Insurance. His insurance career also includes an entrepreneurial accomplishment, when he was owner and president of his own insurance brokerage/agency.

Carter is a graduate of Old Dominion University, is actively engaged in the alumni association, and currently serves on the alumni association board of directors.
Janet Pitterle Holt
Corporate Counsel
Jan Holt joined United Educators (UE) as its corporate counsel in February 2003.

Prior to joining UE, she was a partner in Hogan & Hartson, LLP., a Washington-based international law firm. Holt spent 20 years with the firm, specializing in litigation and general counseling. Prior to this, Holt clerked for the Honorable Stanley S. Harris and the Honorable James A. Belson of the DC Court of Appeals.

Holt graduated first in her class from Georgetown University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and she received her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. She also is a certified public accountant.
Michael F. Horning
Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer
Michael Horning joined United Educators (UE) as the CFO and vice president for finance and administration in July 2000. He is responsible for all finance and accounting functions, human resources, facility management, and information technology.

Prior to joining UE, Horning was employed at Montgomery Insurance Companies where he held a number of positions during his 12-year career including controller, treasurer, chief financial officer, and senior vice president. He began his career in public accounting where he rose to the position of audit senior manager with Touche Ross & Co. in Washington DC.

Horning has a bachelor of science in business administration with a major in accounting from John Carroll University in Ohio and is a Maryland-licensed certified public accountant.
Robb Jones
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Robb Jones is the senior vice president and general counsel for claims management and risk research at United Educators (UE) and is responsible for professional liability claims management of more than 1,160 colleges, universities, and schools. He also manages UE’s research group that offers original analysis and information on risk management issues

From 1994 to 1997 Jones was director of the Judicial Education Division of the Federal Judicial Center, where he developed and managed training and continuing legal education programs for federal judges. He served as administrative assistant to Chief Justice William Rehnquist at the US Supreme Court from 1991 to 1994. Before that time, he was a litigation partner in the Washington office of Nixon Hargrave Devans & Doyle (now Nixon Peabody), where he concentrated on higher education, employment, and media law.

Jones received his undergraduate degree from Grove City College and graduate and law degrees from the University of Virginia.
Lee C. Lloyd
Vice President of Risk Services, Underwriting and Chief Actuary
Lee Lloyd is vice president of risk consultation and underwriting and chief actuary at United Educators (UE), where he is responsible for all underwriting and actuarial activities. In addition, Lloyd is responsible for the proactive institutional risk consultation services that UE provides to campuses across the United States.

Prior to joining UE in September of 1999, Lloyd served in several traditional and nontraditional actuarial roles, including product development, during his five years at the Zurich. Prior to this, Lloyd was with the Travelers insurance company.

Lloyd received his bachelors in actuarial science from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University. Lloyd is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
Joseph B. McCullough
Vice President General Liability Claims
Joe McCullough joined United Educators (UE) in December 1992 and is the vice president for general liability claims administration, where he manages catastrophic claims for UE members.

McCullough has more than 30-years experience in the supervision of property casualty claims, including serving as vice president of claims for Victor O. Schinnerer and Company, where he had major responsibility for the UE claims program. When UE brought claims in-house, McCullough was instrumental in the smooth transition. Previously he was with CNA as a supervising analyst and Travelers Insurance as a claims supervisor.

McCullough earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland.
