United Educators Insurance, the premier risk management and insurance company serving colleges, universities, and K-12 public and private schools, has an excellent opportunity for a Risk Management Consultant (RMC) in its Risk Services program. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct risk management services to a segment of United Educators’ membership, including risk assessments, advice on risk issues and presentations on important risk management topics related mostly to general liability (GL) and employment practices liability (EPLT). The RMC will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships and coordination between UE, its membership and their brokers. Bachelor’s degree required and demonstrated ability to analyze complex risk issues for educational institutions and develop solutions for member policyholders. Extensive travel to member campuses for consultations, presentations and advising on risk management topics. United Educators is offering an internship with its Risk Research Group during the summer of 2008. UE is seeking an intern -- who is currently enrolled at a college or university that is a member of UE – with strong research and writing skills and a background and interest in student affairs risk management for K-12 schools and higher education. Responsibilities will include research, writing and analysis on issues of educator sexual misconduct, student activities, athletics and institutional liability. Undergraduate and masters-level students as well as J.D. and Ph.D. candidates are eligible to apply. The successful applicant will be bright and highly motivated with a strong academic record and an interest in risk management and education. The internship is available either for pay or academic credit. It will run 40 hours a week for 10 weeks between mid-May and mid-August, although this is negotiable. Our office is located in Chevy Chase, Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C., at the Friendship Heights Metro station. The successful candidate must have the Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designation, have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated supervisory skills. The AVP and Actuary is responsible for developing and analyzing actuarial data pertaining to current and future public school members as well as providing actuarial services for other corporate segments. Specific responsibilities include: develop and maintain public school database; analyze database for loss trends and causes; conduct actuarial rate studies by line of business; develop pricing methodologies and recommendations; develop proposals for reserve reviews; supervise Actuarial Analyst.
