Who is United Educators?
United Educators Insurance, a Reciprocal Risk Retention Group, is a licensed insurance company owned and governed by more than 1,160 member colleges, universities, independent schools, public school districts, public school insurance pools, and related organizations throughout the United States. Our members range from small, private schools to multi-campus public universities. United Educators is Rated A (Excellent) by A.M. Best. As "Education's Own Insurance Company," no one understands education's unique risks better than UE. There are no outside investors or shareholders in United Educators. All policyholders are members and all members are policyholders. Any profits made by United Educators are allocated to the individual member Surplus Accounts which cumulatively comprise UE’s surplus, an important part of our being Rated A (Excellent) by A.M. Best Company. Surplus not needed to support the Best’s Rating of A and strong financial position will, with Board and Regulator approval, be returned to members. We are proud of our Best’s Rating, which serves as external validation to the company’s financial strength, strong governance and expert staff. We are committed to reducing the overall cost of risk for our members. We do this by offering risk management programs that have a demonstrable impact on reducing claims, management of claims by experienced claims attorneys that is sensitive to campus traditions and practices, and stability in coverage and pricing in tumultuous insurance markets. The strongest evidence of United Educator’s mission is the commitment of the membership to reducing losses through implementation of innovative risk management programs at the schools and campuses and the strong commitment of members to UE. Year after year, over 94% of UE members renew their insurance policies—this is the highest retention rate in the industry and confirmation of UE’s mission. As a risk retention group, UE may not be subject to the insurance laws and regulations of the states in which its members are located and state insurance insolvency guaranty funds are not available to UE's members. |
